Mothers Day Gifts

I kind of always believed that flowers are the only thing that should be sent to your mom on mothers day. I don’t know many people who give anything other than mothers day flowers and I used to be one of them. My choice in mothers day gifts changed last year but before that, it was always flowers that I ordered online. Mom lived at about an hour drive and since mothers day is on Sunday, I could’ve taken the time to see her but I thought that sending her flowers made up for my not being there.
What opened my eyes was a colleague of mine whose mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer. We didn’t have any history of mental diseases in our family but it made me realize that I didn’t appreciate my mom enough. I always blew her off with mothers day flowers, I’d occasionally send her mothers day fruit baskets but I rarely went to see her except on her birthday. I’d literally taken my mom for granted. I decided I had to change and that my mom, who’d, brought me up so well and made so many sacrifices for me deserved more respect and acknowledgment.
I began looking for mothers day gifts that could match the sentiments of flowers but all I found was jewelry (mass produced for the holiday) and it was mostly out of my budget. If I bought something that fell in my price range it was sure to be ugly. I thought I’d get her something with a food theme and that I’d take it to her personally, it was just a matter of finding the perfect mothers day gift. My diligent searching paid off and I found what I was looking for; fruit bouquets!!! They were fruit carved to look like flowers. Mom loved fruit and they looked spectacular ( with chocolate dipped strawberries), better than any bouquet I’d ever ordered for her. When I took it over she was surprised (to see me) and delighted with her gift.
